NOTICE of Election for 2026 for Officers (5). Nominations open August 1, 2026 and close August 31, 2026.

Elections will be held from October 1, 2026 and close on November 10, 2026.

Nominations for Officers Opens. You can make a nomination by contacting TBA, Nomination and Election Committee Chair, via e-mail at TBA.

The 5 Officers whose term expires 12/31/26 are:

MCARE September 2026 Luncheon (08 Sep 2026)

Luncheons are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Time: Social hour at 11:30 am - Lunch at 12:30 pm

Price: $28.00

Menu : Please select one (1) of the below entrees when you register. Same for each guest you register.

Chicken Toscana- 8 oz cooked in wine, artichoke hearts, mushrooms with 2 side dishes
Grilled Salmon with mango papaya salsa served with starch and vegetables
Spaghetti Carbonara pancetta, onion, garlic, egg, parmesan
Eggplant parmigiana (vegetarian)

Desert: Strawberry Sundae

The meal includes a club salad with cranberries, oranges, walnuts, and blue cheese crumbles, sliced sourdough basket on each table and napkins and bread plate and will have water on each table and iced tea with sliced lemons and coffee available on a side table.

Matt Willis, MD, retired Marin County PHO (Public Health Officer)

Matt Willis, MD MPH, is a physician and epidemiologist who served as Marin County’s Public Health Officer from 2013 to 2024. He is a champion for data driven solutions, clear communication, and collaboration across sectors to tackle complex public health challenges. During the pandemic Marin achieved among the highest vaccination rates and lowest mortality rates in the nation, by prioritizing equitable access, science-driven policy, and open communication with the public.

He has served as a primary care provider at Marin Community Clinics, Director of Primary Care on the Navajo Nation in Arizona, and at the CDC, where he conducted outbreak investigations in the US and abroad.

He writes Your Local Epidemiologist in California, a weekly newsletter translating emerging science into health guidance. A Marin native, he lives in San Anselmo with his family and two dogs.

Reservations are encouraged because they help us with the head count for the restaurant.

Voting for At Large Directors Opens. You can vote online via an e-mail ballot you will be sent OR you can print a ballot from the KIT Newsletters. IF you do not vote by electronic or printed ballot you can vote at our Annual Membership meeting in November IF you've NOT voted by electronic or printed ballot.

The Board currently is nicely balanced with representation from a few of the 9 agencies which belong to MCERA. Today’s Board has three (3) Marin County Retirees and three (3) City of San Rafael Retirees and one (1) each from Novato Fire and Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District.

I'm a California native son, moved from Fresno to Marin after college. I was hired by the County as a death investigator in 1975. After 9 years I was appointed as the Asst. Coroner and 14 years later I ran for and was elected as the Coroner for Marin. I served three full terms and retired in January 2011.

I raised my 2 children in Marinwood and currently live in Novato. I have hunted and fished all my life; I coached youth athletics while my kids were growing up. I now watch my 8 grandchildren in their youth sports.

In my spare time I am working on my second book chronicling interesting cases that happened during my tenure in the Marin Coroner's office.

I have been an MCARE At-Large Director since January 1, 2023, and am the Scholarship Committee Chair.

Reservations are encouraged because Ken is a popular speaker and reservations they help us with the head count for the restaurant.

Reservation deadline is Friday October 10, 2025.
